Radiation Physics

The mission of radiation physics department is to provide high-quality and most advanced patient-centered treatment in collaboration with radiation oncologists through the use of cutting-edge technology and research.

Shan Guoping, director of the department of radiation physics, is professor of medical physics at Cancer Hospital of the University of Chinese Academy of Science (CHUCAS, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital). He holds the vice chair of quality assurance workgroup at Zhejiang. And he is also the vice chair of the Zhejiang Anti-Cancer Association on Radiation Physics &Technology and has been a member of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and Zhejiang Medicine Association.

Excellence in care

There are more than 100 faculty members in the department. 5 of them have Ph.D. degree and 16 of them have Master degree. As such, we are held to the highest of standards and take the leadership in clinical care domestically. Moreover, as a member of Chinese medical team at Mali Hospital in Bamako, we have contributed to improving medical care for African patients and equipping the local staffwith professional skills in radiation physics for the past 10 years. Our department is equipped with eight Linacs systems, a Tomotherapy system, two CT scans and HDR brachytherapy suite. With supports of the powerful technology and expertise, our department is enabled to provide superior treatment for patients include:

●Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) for lung cancer

●Adaptive radiotherapy(ART) for nasopharyngeal carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma of head and neck

● Intensity modulated arc therapy (IMAT)

●Image guided adaptive brachytherapy (IGABT) for cervical cancer

●Total body irradiation (TBI) and total marrow irradiation (TMI) for hematological malignancies

Leadership in research

Our department is one of the institutions with the peer recognition of MD Anderson Cancer Center accreditation which is recognized as high quality for radiotherapy. In addition, we also hold a joint project with Gono university in Bangladesh on the subject of radiation physics. Till now, 5 students from Gono university have finished their PH. D or master degree work in our department.

Research in our department focused on the application of artificial intelligence in radiotherapy, real time tumor tracking in radiotherapy. Projects in the department are funded by diverse sources including:

● the Provincial Natural Science Foundation of China

●the Medical Science and Technology Program of Zhejiang Province
