Zhejiang Cancer Hospital (ZJCH) has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to international medical excellence by welcoming a delegation from Berlin's Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. The visit, marking the first high-level exchange since the institutions signed a strategic MOU in 2025, culminated in the renewal of bilateral cooperation frameworks.
On March 11, 2026, a delegation led by Professor Joachim Spranger, President of Charité, visited ZJCH. The event was attended by Mr. Sun Weiwei, Vice-Chairperson of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology (ZAST), and Professor Cheng Xiangdong, President of ZJCH.

Key Highlights of the Collaboration:
Deepening Ties: The partnership, active for 23 years, has seen 16 ZJCH medical staff sent to Germany for training. These returning scholars have grown to become leaders in fields such as Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Head & Neck Surgery.
Strategic Renewal: This visit follows the 2025 signing of a strategic memorandum with Charité’s Comprehensive Cancer Center and signifies a shift from one-way talent training to "complementary technology and collaborative innovation."
Future Focus: Discussions centered on digital healthcare, clinical trials, scientific research, and the integration of traditional Chinese medicine therapies.
Insightful Exchange and Facility Tour
During the visit, ZJCH Vice President Professor Zhu Ji detailed the hospital's clinical research management system. Representative trainees, including Professor Zhang Yuhua (Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery) and Professor Chen Chao (Head & Neck Surgery), shared their research experiences in Germany.
The delegation toured ZJCH’s state-of-the-art facilities, including the Heavy Ion Medical Center, Skills-up Training Center, and Biobank. They praised ZJCH's innovative practices, specifically highlighting the clinical application of domestic heavy-ion technology and the standardized management of biological samples.
Signing Ceremony
Earlier that morning, a formal "China-Germany Medical Cooperation Project Signing Ceremony" was held at the ZAST building. Representatives from six medical institutions, including ZJCH Academic Vice President Professor Hu Hai, joined President Spranger and ZAST leadership to sign the new agreements.

This renewed framework positions Zhejiang Cancer Hospital and Charité to tackle global oncology challenges through shared expertise and technological advancement.
