Founded in 1963，Zhejiang Cancer Hospital is one Of the four earliest established cancer hospital in China，located in the north of Hangzhou．It has become a specialized cancer hospital and the provincial center which incorporate the function of medical care, research, education, prevention and information for the past forty years.

   The hospital covers a floor area of 63880m2 and con-struction space of 64297m2，which is made up of the area of 6402m2 out-patient building，23086m2 in-patient building and 35779m2 greenbelt．Among 1100 employees in all, there are 125 members with senior rank and 299 with middle rank. The hospital has 1306 beds and 19 wards including the departments of sugery, radiotherapy，chemotherapy，com-bination of traditional and western medicine, interventional therapy and comprehensive therapy，etc．There are 100 thousands out-patients and about 10 thousands in-patients per year. Statistical data show that the total number of out-patient, in-patient and operation has reached 2452620，191298 and 83757 respectively from 1963 to 2006.

   With the development of the hospital, a large number of advanced medical instrument was introduced to provide the solid；technical support for the accurate diagnosis and treatment, such as GE hi-speed helix CT，SIMENS CT，DSA，Leica automatic tissue processing apparatus，automatic immunoanalyzer, automatic biochemical analyzer, SIMENS linear accelaration, dynamic conformal/intensity modulated，planning system, Iridium 192 after loading and stereotactic radiotherapy system etc.   

    The hospital spares no effort to serve the patient and focuses on the improvement of medical quality．Besides，the hospital devotes much attention to medical research and application of new technology， and some predominant subjects were set up, especially on surgery, radiotherapy，chemotherapy and pathology，etc．Surgery, radiotherapy，chemotherapy，traditional medical therapy，interventional therapy and biological treatment are fully utilized for drafting comprehensive treatment plan for tumors at different sites and stages. Remarkable progress on therapeutic efficacy and improving, patients’ quality of life have achieved. For example, the 10-, 20-year survival rates of papillary carcinoma of thyroid reached respectively 95.10% and 88.89％.The 5-year survival rate reached over 70% in non-small cell lung cancer at stage Ⅱ, over 60% in colorectal carcinoma after operation, 70% in rectal carcinoma with operation for preserving annus. In 1998, the subject of oncology in the hospital was listed into priority subject of the province by zhejiang Health Bureau.

The hospital is actively conducting research and education and has cultivated many excellent oncologic specialists. In 1991,Zhejiang Cancer Research Institute was established in hospital and laid stress on basic and clinical research. Many scientific research projects were sponsored by national or provincial funds and acquired rewards. Still more, the hospital has trained thousands of doctors from all over the country and as being teaching hospital of Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Zhejiang Medical Professional College and Medical College of Zhejiang University.

The hospital attaches much importance to international co-operation. It has held various kinds of nationwide academic conferences and has sent lots of doctors to famous hospitals or research institutes for further study. In recent 5 years, more than one hundred doctors have visited many countries around the world. Furthermore, the hospital has built up the friendly relationship with some hospitals in the same field.

   In addition, the hospital founded Bulletin of Chinese Cancer, Journal of Oncology, Zhejiang Cancer Prevention and Control office, Zhejiang Clinicopathology Quality Control Center, Zhejiang Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment Quality Control Center, etc. The hospital has put into a great deal of manpower, material and fund on the provincial prevention and treatment for cancer and play an important role in cancer prevention, medical quality control and training.
